I never win anything. I mean that.

Throughout my life my little sister has been the lucky one, winning anything from chinese auction prizes to 4 foot chocolate bunny raffles (true story she was 6 years old.) Well I finally won something and it’s awesome: Two VIP tickets to the Austin Fashion Week Awards!

So random, I know.

A few months ago I stumbled upon this online group for women entrepreneurs called The Crave Company. They have groups in about a dozen cities nationwide and one here in Austin. I didn’t even realize it, but the woman who runs it happens to also be part of this other group Im in called Bump Club and Beyond AND I met her at the January MomCom conference for entrepreneurial moms. Small world, but so cool. Love there are so many groups for young women and moms like me!

The fashion show was my first and my sister and I got all dressed up- to our standards- which in the fashion world is nothing.

Fasionweek

Definitely interesting and very cool to see the Austin Fashion crowd. Usually I’m attending tech events or social media and marketing meetups, fashion in this town is a totally new territory. When I lived in DC I went to a few fashion events because I worked in Georgetown, but never anything quite like this. My sister and I didn’t exactly fit in, although we didn’t stick out either! Here are some Vine videos I took to capture the couture of the runway shows:

Each show had a theme that told a story, It was almost like mini theater The dancer in me loved the music and choreographed movements. The finale even had a fire eater!

Needless to say I was exhausted the next day, my first mothers Day, because this lady typically doesn’t stay up past 11 pm.

My First Mother’s Day

The one asked me what I wanted to do for my special day and honestly, laying in the sun or blogging is my version of heaven. I’m a total nerd, I know. but I don’t get time to do those things!

Instead, my sister did an amazing job lightening my hair so now I feel refreshed.  I came home to a lovely brunch complete with mimosas, homemade scones and a gorgeous pink tree! Being a mom isn’t so bad, it’s actually pretty awesome when you have a great partner and kiddo like I do. I consider myself so blessed to have both of them in my life.

Making More Time for Me

Earlier in the week I had also talked with the Austin CRAVE chapter president about getting more involved with the organization. It’s something I want to do for my business to get my name out there. It’s a new group full of new exciting faces and I need some more refreshment in my life.

I’ve spent two years on the board of Austin Women in Communication as social media chair and now it’s time to do something different, something for me and just me.

I’m excited to announce I’m going to be joining CRAVE as a volunteer helping host a monthly meetups called CRAVE Chats AND even bigger news: I’m speaking at the upcoming June event!

It all happened because I did something rally simple: I asked how I could help. It’s amazing what happens when you just ask. The universe often times will give you the answer you seek. But, as women this is difficult for us to do: ask. So simple, yet so paralyzing at the same time.

Fear that holds us back from possible opportunity.
Unless you take the risk and ask, you’ll never know what is possible.

As you head into the new week I encourage you to:

Just ask, you never know how it will turn out.
Do something for you. Even if you aren’t a Mama, go celebrate for a day.

Cheers!
