One of my goals for 2013 was to speak at four professional development events. Earlier this week I checked off number four on my list by hosting the local June CRAVE  event with the talented PR pro Lauren Halpern. We each spoke for ten minutes followed by a ton of mingling and networking. It was so much fun, at a great venue with inspiring women all doing what they love.

It was my first time attending the monthly event after meeting Sarah, who runs the local chapter and OliveYou Nanny Agency.  I went with my gut and reached out to her a few months ago to see if I could volunteer with the newly formed chapter. I was so thrilled that she said yes to my offer and then I literally jumped up and down when she suggested I speak and co-host the June event.

All together about 40 women showed up to learn about Social Media from me, and PR from Lauren. Honestly, I didn’t even care about the speaking part I just wanted to hear from all the other creative entrepreneurs! What really struck me was how passionate each of them were about their businesses. The women who attended were from all different kinds of backgrounds, which was cool. Some were artists, other were in Real Estate, event planning or personal training. I went without an agenda but  I’ve already heard from two women who want to get together for coffee next week! Super exciting.  I love meeting new people.

Closet Crafter

This week I also went to the Etsy Craft Party at a super cute store called the Burlap Bag. My sister and fellow crafter friend Lauren came too. We made our own bath salts and admired all the cute stuff in the store. Candles, vintage dresses, little kid clothing and infinity scarves. LOVE! Reminded us of all the goodies from the Renegrade Craft Fair. The event itself was a little overcrowded but I’ll do almost anything to get my crafting fix!

P.S. I’ve also been glued to my Tweetdeck watching everyone at the NYC Alt Summit. Side note, I’m going to the next one even though I’m not a serious crafter/maker. It just looks like so much fun and the other attendees have become some of my go-to people to follow on Instagram or on blogs for craft inspiration. Sometime in the next coming weeks I MUST reopen my Etsy shop and start sewing again. Its like therapy for me, honestly.
Also, I want to learn how to screen print or letterpress.Wouldn’t that be cool? Sure, in my spare time I’ll add those two to my list.

As you head into the weekend a thought  to keep in mind:

Go out on a limb and attend a new event! The best things happen when we learn to collaborate.
Cheers!
