Do you think you’re brave? I would bet if you asked close friends they would say absolutely!
I understand it can be hard for us as women to own our awesomeness.
But, modesty is for the mediocre in my book.

Why not share our challenges and triumphs with each other?  This way we can find connections and even friendships through common journeys.
Without further ado, I’d like to introduce you to a new series on AndreaGenevieve.com called The Bravery Files.

The Bravery Files: An Interview with Foodie Photographer Kelly Rucker

This is the first interview in a collection of stories that will highlight amazing women taking entrepreneurship, careers or life purpose to the next level. Check back each week as The Bravery Files will showcase a variety of stories from women of all walks of life. This week we’re talking with Kelly Rucker, a food photographer and soon-to-be-mama. I first met Kelly in 2013 at a CRAVE event in Austin, TX just after she moved from Dallas. Since then she’s been growing her fabulous photo business (she did my family holiday card!) she’s had her work featured in Austin Monthly Magazine, The Knot, Camille Styles and most recently launched an online community for women entrepreneurs of faith.

Thanks for volunteering to go first Kelly! Tell us a little more about yourself and what you do for fun and as a female business owner
I’m a photographer based in beautiful Austin, Texas – specializing in Wedding, Editorial and Food photography. I’d love for you to check out some of my work on Instagram.
I’m also the co-founder of The {well} Studio, an online community and publication of women entrepreneurs of faith. We serve to inspire, encourage and equip women to pursue their dreams.
In my free time I enjoy hanging out with my husband, taking my poodle, Mardy, to town lake, trying new restaurants, traveling the world, meeting friends for coffee and calligraphy.

On Bravery…Tell us, what has been your greatest risk? What do YOU think has been your bravest moment?
As of right now, my bravest moment/biggest risk was taking the plunge and pursuing my business full time. But I’m expecting my first baby later this year, so come back to me, I’m sure my answer will be totally different then:)

What does Bravery mean to you?
I think bravery is all about taking risks and getting out of your comfort zone. We all have passions and things that fire us up, but many of us are held back by fear. Bravery can truly be found deep inside each of us. I think we need like minded people in our lives that will encourage us to pursue greatness!

Kelly what are you really passion about? What makes you wake up every morning?
I love serving others, whether that be through photography or simply writing a thank you note. I love to encourage others!

You are an amazing photographer and shoot all kinds of fun subjects… like weddings and food!  Tell us how you got started.
Creativity inspired me to start my business, but my husband encouraged me to pursue it full time. I wanted freedom in my life to be creative and serve others, while still making money. It’s definitely a give and take. You make sacrifices to do what you love, knowing there is a greater purpose. We all define success differently and have to be true to ourselves.

I’m sure like other entrepreneurs there are days when you wake up and don’t feel particularly motivated. When that happens, what if your go-to remedy to help you kick it into high gear?
I talk to my husband. I pray. I journal. I step back from the situation and re-evaluate. Maybe even call on a good friend to be my sounding board.

Do you have any special advice for women who might not be feeling particularly brave while reading this?

Be true to yourself. What fires you up? What is your definition of success? Don’t compare yourself to others, only you can live your life, and it truly is unique! Your dreams are valid and it’s up to you to live them out. Who cares what others think? Go and be brave!

Kelly, as always its a joy to hear from you and I can’t wait to see where your photography skills take you next. The layout and graphics on The {well} Studio are divine, you should all check it out.
And of course from one Mama to the next I wish you all the best as you enter into the adventure of mamahood!
