Earlier this week I held my first in person Instagram workshop at the fabulous Posh Coworking space. This event was open to entrepreneurs, small business owners, social media managers, you name it!
The class was small, but very interactive and the attendees asked some great questions. We even took photos as part of a scavenger hunt and looked at some super cool brands rocking Instagram. By the end of the night, I think everyone was convinced of the awesome power of Instagram.
Every time I host an event, I remember how much I love teaching. It’s what I’m meant to do- honestly.
The 3-hour workshop included instruction (from me), worksheets, a full-color PDF guidebook and step-by-step training. The last hour was dedicated to a really fun photo scavenger hunt, which is technically called an Instameet. (An Instameet is a group of people who get together and search for shots to post on Instagram based around a theme or set list of items.)
Each student was given a list of 5 things to snap and the hashtag #POSHgram to track uploads. You can check out some of my students photos by searching for #POSHgram on the Instagram Explore tab. The person who took the best photo out of the group received a prize from Prinstagram, a photo printing service dedicated to Instagram which you should definitely check out.
It was great fun and I can’t wait to do it again!
So what did we cover? Well as far as curriculum, here are some of the things attendees walked away learning:
- What is a hashtag (#) and why does it matter?
- How to use hashtags
- Ways to connect with other Instagrammers and the @ symbol
- How to find good people to follow
- Tips for increasing your followers
- Basic photo composition
- Photo filters, adding text and frames
- Photo ideas for your industry
- Fun free apps to make your photos POP!… and more!
The workshop was very hands-on, because who doesn’t love getting involved and using cool worksheets?
We conversed, exchanged ideas, brainstormed and questioned. A wonderful workshop indeed. On the way home my head was still spinning with ideas.
Which leads me to some big news:
Starting October 1st, you can enroll in the online version of Instagram is Awesome!
The best part, you get the same materials from the in person course, but the leisure of going at your own pace. Play and replay podcasts or videos as many times as you need. Print worksheets or download for reading on the go. You’ll have access to all the course material plus handouts, plus access to ask me questions in a special group, any time you want!
Easy peasy people.
Simply sign up here to be one of the first to know when enrollment opens. I do love it when a good idea strikes me at the right time.
Can’t wait and hope you can help me spread the word or better yet, join me!
