As a working mom it was tough to go back full time after I had my little man. It’s true what veteran Mama’s say. I did it for a few months and then the sleep deprivation took a toll and I ended up feeling delirious throughout most of my meetings. Luckily, my employer has a very lenient work from home policy and values work-life balance tremendously. Now, I work from home twice a week and it’s been the best of both worlds.
Sometimes though, working from home get boring. Even if I had an amazing home office a la Pinterest, there are still days where I crave human interaction and just a change of scenery. This is where coworking spaces come to the rescue. Austin is home to a dozen spaces all over the city. Some are even uber specific to a given industry, for example a coworking space for tech startups or for working parents. Its a great alternative to your home office because you get to mingle with other entrepreneurs, see a new part of the city and make great connections.
This Friday I gathered up my gadgets, cords and headed up to the most fabulous co-working space on the planet: Posh Coworking.
Now, I will admit I am not totally new to Posh. I had met the owner, Blossom, at a local conference for Mom Entrepreneurs back in January. She had I have been meaning to connect and finally this week it was in the cards. I also have to disclose I’m going to be teaching some social media workshops out of the space, but even if I wasn’t, it is still absolutely amazing and I would blog about it.
Posh is a girly girls dream come true. Pink and white accents, crystal chandeliers and inspirational quotes etched into the walls. The furniture is all antique french style with gorgeous fabrics. The minute you walk inside you feel welcome, inspired and empowered. A friend of mine actually uses the space to record her weekly Bombshell videos because of the ambiance and decor. When I say its perfect I mean it- all you need is a cup of tea or a glass of wine and some chocolate to be in heaven.
While I was visiting Posh and working for the day, it just so happened to be during RISE, a week-long series of events for entrepreneurs in Austin. So, I stuck around and caught a session titled Ideas to Income by another remarkable lady I’ve been meaning to connect with, Shenee Howard.
(Side note: I definitely recommend taking her longer 2-day version of the course. We only heard a snippet and it was very helpful. Totally something worth the investment!) It was one of my favorite days in a long time and really made me feel like I’m heading in the right direction with my business and this blog, all because I got out of the house and visited a coworking space.
Coworking spaces aren’t just a physical place to work, they allow you to find true connections and gems to add to your network.
Just Do What You Love
After that wonderful day, I headed out to the Renegade Craft Fair with my sister and little man on Sunday. It was not your typical craft fair and like most things Austin, so trendy and cool. It made me realize how much I miss sewing. All of the vendors had something unique and different to show, something handmade. I could have spent hundreds just supporting local makers! Luckily I kept my wallet in check and showered the crafters with social media love instead.
Check out my awesome new T-shirt:
This could be my life anthem- honestly.
I happen to love a lot of things, which is why there never seems to be enough TIME to do them all! But, I’m making a vow to dust off my sewing machine and create, sometime soon. My hands need to make something in order to truly feel creative.
Explore.
Feel.
Create.
Here are two thoughts as you head into the weekend:
For an extra boost of motivation, try visiting a coworking space near you. Find a local space that fits by checking this global directory.
At the end of the day, just do what you love.
Cheers!
